The Four-in-Hand is the most common and one of the easiest tie knots to master. Slightly asymmetrical and elongated, it works well with most shirt collars and is a great choice for everyday wear. It can be tied in just a few simple steps and takes less than a minute.

The Four-in-Hand knot is said to take its name from a London gentlemen’s club called “The Four In Hand Club”, where it is believed to have originated. Its slightly uneven, asymmetrical shape works well with virtually all shirt collars. The long, narrow knot also helps create the appearance of a longer neck.

The Four-in-Hand knot involves only a few steps, making it one of the easiest tie knots to master.

1. Hold the wide end of the tie on your right side. Let the wide end hang approximately 20 cm lower than the narrow end
2. Bring the wide end around the narrow end once
3. Bring the wide end up and pass it through the loop around your neck
4. Hold the front of the knot loosely and pass the wide end down through the loop
5. Tighten the loop, slide the knot up and adjust it neatly under the collar
